In a poll commissioned by Polish Radio, 27 percent of Poles think the ruling Civic Platform is the party most able to defuse the increasingly ugly tension in Polish politics following the murder of a political activist last week.

The poll by Homo Homini finds that one-in-five think that the opposition Democratic Left Alliance could help cool the political temperature in Poland, while just 14 percent think that Law and Justice can ease the tension.

The murder of the Law and Justice political assistant, Marek Rosiak  - who was buried yesterday - led to party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski accusing Civic Platform of being “morally responsible” for his death, which was the result of a “hate campaign” aimed against his party, he claimed.

The survey was conducted by telephone on a representative sample of 1,090 people on 29 October. (pg)
