National road number 32 near the Gubinek border crossing into Germany is closed and may not be re-opened until tomorrow, police sources say, following the death of two people in a German microlight aircraft which crashed in the area on Tuesday.
A detour has been organized through the nearby city of Gubin, says Norbert Marczenia from the local police force. Police officers are present there all the time to guide motorists.
The ill-fated aeroplane fell on a field, stopping only 20 meters before the busy 32 road. The force of the crash was so strong that parts of the aircraft were scattered on both sides of the road.
It was a shocking scene, mutilated bodies and burning grass, firemen called to the crash site said.
Shortly before the crash, the pilot of the plane informed air traffic control that he was in trouble. An aviation commission is investigating the accident. (kk)
