The political committee of the opposition Law and Justice have decided to throw Joanna Kluzik-Rostkowska, a leading moderate, out of the party after she said earlier this week that she would stand for leadership of the party “if need be”.

According to off the record information given to the PAP news agency the party leadership thinks her remarks have distracted voters’ attention from Law and Justice’s local election campaign.

Kluzik-Rostkowska, a so-called party ‘dove’’ has been a critic of Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s aggressive style of leadership. She told journalists earlier this week that if Kaczynski stands down as leader of Law and Justice if they do badly in the elections on 21 November then she would stand for leadership.

Her opponent would probably be Zbigniew Ziobro, seen as the leader of the ‘hawk’ faction which has been encouraging Jaroslaw Kaczynski to take a tougher line against the government.  (pg)
