President Bronisław Komorowski says schoolchildren should make their own and wear red and white rosettes to mark Independence Day, celebrated on 11 November.

According to the head of state patriotic emblems would be an ideal manifestation of Poles’ pride in their country.

“I would like not only the solemn atmosphere of 1918 [year of the country’s independence] to prevail among Poles but, above all, elation and pride with the success that crowned 123 years of effort and strife of several consecutive generations,” President Komorowski wrote in  a letter sent out to teachers.

Bronisław Komorowski and First Lady Anna are to make the patriotic rosettes with schoolchildren at one of Warsaw’s elementary schools today. Especially for the occasion, the president’s website now features a crash course instructing kids how to make their own patriotic rosette. (ab)
