European Parliament chief Jerzy Buzek has received an honorary doctorate from the Wroclaw University of Technology, at a ceremony attended by 60 Polish and 30 foreign university rectors and PM Donald Tusk.

The ceremony was the culmination of events marking the university’s 100 years anniversary.

Congratulating Mr Buzek, Prime Minister Donald Tusk stressed that the future of the European Union is in good hands.

“Poles are happy, they also feel assured and secure because today’s honorary doctorate holder is watching over the European Parliament, the PM said.

Professor Jerzy Buzek said he makes a point of visiting the south-western city of Wroclaw often.

“It is worth coming here to see how Wroclaw and Lower Silesia have been developing. You are among the fastest growing regions of Poland,” he said.

Buzek pointed to the region’s excellent situation, it’s close links with western and southern Europe, of which the region has always taken advantage.

The university authorities spoke of Professor Buzek’s commitment to the promotion of science and new technologies. He is the author of more than 100 original works in process engineering leading to the implementation of a number of electric power and heat generation plants as well as refineries in Poland.
