• Gap narrows between parties ahead of local ballots

Two days ahead of the local elections, the gap between governing and opposition parties has narrowed, finds a new opinion poll commissioned by Polish Radio.


When asked how they would vote in the elections on Sunday, respodants gave the ruling Civic Platform a 33 percent vote share, with Law and Justice just eight percentage points behind (25.1%), according to the poll by Homo Homini.

In relation to a poll by the same company on 12 November, Civic Platform are down 5.3 percent and Law and Justice up by 4.1 percent.

In third place is the Democratic Left Alliance on 15.3 percent, down 1.8 percent.

Director of the Homo Homini Institute, Marcin Duma says the results are particular to voting intentions in local elections and would not be replicated in a general election, where Civic Platform has a clear lead in the country according to all surveys.

Duma also said that the junior coalition partner, the Polish Peasant’s party, on around 7 percent support, can expect to do better in the local elections that in a ballot for the national parliament. (pg)
