If a general election was to take place this Sunday in Poland, the new breakaway opposition party ‘Poland is most important’ would receive 6.4 percent support, shows a new survey commissioned by Polish Radio.

The new party  - sometimes referred to in the media as ‘PiS-lite’, comprised of former members of Law and Justice (PiS) is enjoying a notable level of support due to its high media profile, says head of the Homo Homini opinion pollsters, Marcin Duma:

“Media attention is still cantered on [the new party],” he told Polish Radio. “I think that once this novelty wears off […] the ability to find space in a political arena dominated by [Law and Justice and the governing Civic Platform] will show whether it can maintain its support.”

The centre-right Civic Platform (PO) party would receive 3 7.2-percent support shows the poll, with the junior coalition partner, the Polish Peasants’ Party (PSL) 8.3 percent.

Law and Justice remains on 24.3 and with the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) on 14.4 percent .

Voter turnout would be 56.3 percent.

The survey was conducted on a sample of 1,088. (ab/pg)
