• New PJN party sounds odd in English, says MEP

A member of the European parliament who is part of the breakaway ‘Poland is the most important’ grouping worries that the name for the new party sounds strange in English.

MEP Adam Bielan told a private radio station this week that the Polska Jest Najważniejsza (PJN) party in Polish will be putting up candidates in next year’s general election.

But MEP Adam Bielan, admits that the name of the group, which was Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s presidential election campaign slogan, needs more work.

“It sounds strange in English,” admitted the MEP.

On his former party, Law and Justice – which Bielan left along with Joanna Kluzik-Roskowska, Pawel Pncyljusz and other politicians in protest at the extremist direction the party was taking – the MEP said: “Law and Justice has turned into a group of lepers”.

He also said that the party should learn from successive defeats in general, local and presidential elections. (pg)
