Voters in 730 local districts, towns, and cities are going to the polls today in a second round of local elections following inconclusive victories in the first round two weeks ago.
Sunday’s ballot will decide run offs in 402 local district mayors (wójt), 273 town mayors (burmistrz) as well as 55 city presidents.
A second round of voting is being held in eight provincial capitals, including Krakow, Lodz, Bydgoszcz, Poznan, Lublin, Szczecin, Olsztyn, and Opole, as well as a number of other major cities throughout the country.
Turnout
Turnout at 10.00 CET on Sunday was 3.5 percent nationwide. The highest noted turnout was in the Lacko district in the southern Malopolska province, with 16.76 percent of registered voters casting their ballot by 10.00 CET.
Regionally, the lowest turnout was noted in the Lodz province, with only 2.47 percent of votes being cast, with the highest regional turnout being the Podkarpackie province, with 5.61 percent of eligible voters casting their ballot.
The National Electoral Commission has announced that the next figures concerning turnout are to be released at 16.30 CET, Sunday, and will show turnout levels for 15.00 CET. (jb)
