A further nine people have been reported dead as a result of the deep freeze that has engulfed Poland since the end of November, bringing the toll up to 61 people so far this season.
The Government Centre for Security announced the information, Monday, after the last 24 hours have claimed the lives of nine people. Meanwhile, emergency services are asking citizens to report instances of homeless or drunk people on the streets, who are highly susceptible to hypothermia.
The cold snap seen across many north European countries may be coming to and end, however, as Poland’s weather service has reported a warm front cutting across the country.
Temperatures on Monday are to range between -2 and 2 degrees Celsius across the country, with sporadic snowfall expected. At night, temperatures are set to plummet to -12 degrees Celsius in the north-east to -7 degrees Celsius in the west. (jb)
