• Parliamentary Speaker: Smolensk investigative committees not likely
  • 14.12.2010

Parliamentary Speaker Grzegorz Schetyna has said that there is a lack of majority support among MPs for the creation of a committee that would investigate the cause of the presidential plane crash in April this year.

The comment comes after the opposition Law and Justice party called for the committee’s creation last week, with Poland Comes First following suit, Monday, when it submitted an application for the creation of an extraordinary committee.

Asked by journalists, Tuesday, Schetyna said that the applications will be referred to the parliamentary regulatory committee.

“After the [committee’s] opinion they applications will be voted on in a plenary session,” Schetyna said, adding that “from what I know, I don’t think that there is a majority that will vote through either application.”

“The [Smolensk] case is kept alive by the media, but in my opinion there is no political motive [for the committees],” Schetyna concluded. (jb)
