Thirteen Polish and German ice-breakers have resumed their work on the Odra (Oder) River, including Dabie lake.
The vessels are clearing a channel to clear the ice build-up in the vicinity of Gryfino.
Meanwhile, high water is still being recorded on the Odra. The worst situation is in Gryfino, where accumulating ice floes have raised water levels to 660 centimetres, causing local flooding.
The ice-breakers have managed to crush more than half of the 40-kilometre build-up of ice on the Odra River, although the channel-clearing on the river near Gryfino remains crucial to the whole operation, a spokesman from the Regional Water Authority in Szczecin told Polish Radio. (ek/jb)
