Several flights have been cancelled and dozens delayed as a blanket of heavy fog has descended over airports in the southern cities of Krakow and Katowice.
Balice airport in Krakow has been covered in fog since Sunday evening. As a result planes arriving from Oslo, London and Frankfurt were refused permission to land.
On Monday morning, flights to Munich, Prague and Paris were cancelled and a flight to Vienna delayed.
Bad weather also blocked traffic at Pyrzowice airport in Katowice. A flight to Munich was cancelled and to Dortmund delayed. Several aircraft were redirected to the airport in the western city of Wroclaw.
Heavy fog has been reported in the whole southern region of Silesia, where visibility is reduced to several dozen metres. Temperature has dropped to one or two degrees Celsius below zero and many roads are slippery because of hoar frost.
Meteorologists say, however, that soon the temperature will go up and the fog may clear. (mg)
