• Compensation offered for Smolensk families
  • 21.01.2011

The State Treasury has offered compensation amounting to 250,000 zloty (64,500 euro) for each close family member of those who perished in the presidential plane crash in Smolensk last April.

The offer encompasses compensation for closest family members, including parents, children and spouses, and is available as a one-off settlement for losses caused by the death.

The move was announced on Friday by Marcin Dziurda, head of the one of the State Treasury’s restitution departments. The settlements are expected to be filed in respective court hearings, although Dziurda did not discount that the settlements may be filed out of court.

Additionally, the settlements will not forbid the family members filing for further compensation under other legal instances, with the possibility of applying for sums greater than the set 250,000 zloty. (jb)
