A miner has been killed in the Knurów-Szczygłowice colliery in Silesia south western Poland.


The man, 56, was caught in a combined cutter-loader at the depth of 1050 metres.

He is the fifth victim of accidents in Polish mines this year.

In 2010, 24 miners died as a result of accidents at work, 14 less than in 2009. A total of 3. 342 mining accidents of all types were registered last year, a 5 percent decrease on 2009. (mk)
