Father Tadeusz Rydzyk, founder of the ultra-conservative Radio Maryja, is going to open a religious theme park near his base in Torun, northern Poland.

Media mogul Father Rydzyk, who already has a radio and TV station, newspaper and media centre to his name, is now working on a large-scale project called the Polonia in Tertio Millennio Centre, a religious theme park which will consist of a fairyland-style church, hotels, huge aqua park with thermal water spa, sports hall, conference hall, shops and restaurants.

There will also be a marina and an amphitheatre on the Vistula River bank, report's Rydzyk's Nasz Dziennik newspaper.

Father Rydzyk wants Polonia in Tertio Millennio to become the main religious centre in Poland, outshining the centuries-old Czestochowa.

The religious Disneyland, designed by Andrzej Ryczek, will be built near the University of Social and Medial Culture run by the Father Rydzyk’s Redemptorists order, which has drawn criticism from the Vatican, concerned about his regular excursions into right wing politics.

It is estimated that the theme park may cost several million zloty and Radio Maryja has already asked its listeners to contribute their money. (mg/pg)
