The Prosecutor’s Office in the eastern city of Bialystok decided to arrest the mayor and charge him with sex abuse. Malkowski spent six months in custody and was dismissed from the office after a referendum.

The investigation on the case lasted three years. In the meantime Malkowski ran in the recent municipal elections.

“Nothing can stop me from doing this. Police, the Prosecutor’s Office and Tax Office checked me and if I had done something illegal, it would have been revealed by now,” Malkowski said in November 2010.
