• Ruling party lead still seven percent

The latest survey commissioned by Polish radio finds no significant change from a week ago as to the standing of political parties, with the ruling Civic Platform maintaining a seven percent lead on its nearest rival.

If elections were held this weekend Civic Platform (PO) would receive 34.1 percent of the vote with Law and Justice (PiS) on 27.7 percent, according to the poll by the Homo Homini Institute.

The Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) is on 15.3 percent,, the junior coalition partner Polish Peasants' Party (PSL) on 7.4 percent and Poland Comes First (PJN) on 6.7 percent.

Director of Homo Homini, Marcin Duma says that the results are similar to the poll taken seven days ago as “national news has taken a breather this week, with news full of events in Egypt and not party leaders such as [Donald] Tusk and [Jaroslaw] Kaczynski.”

According to the poll, turnout at a general election - scheduled for autumn this year - would be 54.2 percent.

The survey was taken on 4 February from a sample of 1100. (pg)
