Poland’s President and Prime Minister will no longer be allowed to fly together in the same plane, according to new regulations put in place after the Smolensk air disaster last April which killed president Lech Kaczynski.

Chancelleries of the President, Prime Minister and the two houses of parliament have signed a regulation which says that four top state officials – President, Prime Minister, Sejm and Senate Speakers – will, under no circumstances, be allowed to fly together.

None of the four officials should be accompanied by more than three subordinates. Also, commanders of Poland’s armed forces and more than a half of the cabinet and the National Security Council are not now allowed to board the same aircraft.

The Smolensk air disaster killed 96 of Poland’s political elite and military top brass.. (mg)
