New figures released by CBOS pollsters, which measure the trustworthiness of politicians, reveal that Poles have greater trust in leftist leader Grzegorz Napieralski than in either Prime Minister Donald Tusk or head of diplomacy Radoslaw Sikorski.

President Bronislaw Komorowski came out top as Poland’s most trusted politician, keeping his position from last month with 65 percent of Poles responding that they trust the head of state, while only 15 percent of Poles do not trust him.

Grzegorz Napieralski (pictured right), head of the Democratic Left Alliance took second position in the poll with 51 percent of Poles stating that they trust the politician, a growth of one percentage point on last month, while 14 percent distrust Napieralski.

Napieralski’s move up the ranking is not due to majorly increased support, however. Even though Donald Tusk and Radoslaw Sikorski maintain the same level of trust among Poles (47 percent each), figures show that 34 percent of respondents distrust the Prime Minister, with 16 percent of respondents not trusting the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The figures are a drop of 5 percent and 4 percent respectively on last month’s poll.

Head of the major opposition Law and Justice party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski won 27 percent of respondents’ trust, with 56 percent of Poles not trusting the former Prime Minister and brother of the late President, Lech Kaczynski. The figure is a 5 percent increase on last month, and makes him the most distrusted politician in Poland, according to the survey.

CBOS conducted the poll between 3-9 February among 1002 people representative of the Polish adult population. (jb)
