• PM Tusk no longer media darling
  • 02.03.2011

Prime Minister Donald Tusk is currently experiencing more negative coverage in the media that at any other time in his premiership, according to a new report.

The analysis, published under the title “The Political Scene”, was conducted by Press Service Monitoring Mediow, which scrutinises over 1000 national and regional titles.

The findings show that Tusk still enjoys the most coverage of any politician (over double that of Law and Justice leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski). However, that coverage is considerably more negative than positive.

The matters which drew the most negative criticism, reflecting on Tusk, were the reform of the Open Pension Fund and the railway situation. Likewise criticism of Minister of Infrastructure Cezary Grabarczyk and Defence Minister Bogdan Klich also rubbed off on the premier. The latter has been the focus of a vote of no confidence in the government, and has had mud thrown at him regarding responsibilty for the doomed Smolensk flight. He continues to endure criticism concerning Poland's military problems in Afghanistan.

In a specific assessment of eight of the most widely read national papers (Gazeta Wyborcza, Rzeczpospolita, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, Polska The Times, Nasz Dziennik, Metro, Super Express and Fakt), “The Political Scene” concluded that 38 percent of the articles concerning Tusk had a negative ring.
