Police in Ostroda, northern Poland are perplexed as to how a dead crocodile materialised in local woodland.

The animal was discovered by a member of the public on Friday near the village of Rychnowo. The crocodile is160 cm long and it weighs over 20 kg.

Following an autopsy yesterday by Professor Tadeusz Rodkiewicz of the Department of Pathology of Olsztyn University, the police remain in the dark as to how the female animal perished.

Indeed, how the animal came to Poland, who was its owner, and what were the causes of death remain unsolved questions in the investigation.

No witnesses have come forward regarding the case as of yet.  (nh)
