Anti-terrorist police in Krakow have arrested a notorious hooligan connected with the Wisla club known as “Misiek” (Teddy Bear).

Pawel M. (full name with withheld under Polish law) was detained this morning.

It is believed that the man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Tomasz C., who was affiliated to the Cracovia club, arch rivals of Wisla.

Tomasz C., who is reported to have belonged to an organized crime gang, was ambushed by over a dozen men whilst driving through the Cracovian district of Kurdwanow. He attempted to hide in a skip, but was set upon with machetes and other knives.

The murder, which took place in broad daylight,  shocked residents, and sparked a furore in the press. (nh)
