• Kaczynski tomb opened after funeral?
  • 11.03.2011

Jan Siuta, the stonemason who crafted the tomb for Lech and Maria Kaczynski following the Smolensk catastrophe in April last year, has revealed that the tomb was reopened a few days after the burial of the presidential couple in Krakow’s Wawel Cathedral.

Talking to journalists, Siuta did not want to release any details of the opening, and refused to comment if anything was either placed inside or taken out of the tomb, as the information is classified.

However, according to unofficial information, after opening one of the side panels a sealed tube containing the remains of President Lech Kaczynski is alleged to have been placed inside.

“I have signed the relative documents, which included a section which effectively seals my lips,” Siuta told journalists on Thursday.

The funeral of Lech and Maria Kaczynski took place on 18 April 2010, just over a week after the crash of the Tu-154M killed all 96 on board when landing in thick fog at Smolensk Severny airport in western Russia. (jb)
