The recent media offensive by Prime Minister Donald Tusk could be the reason why support for the ruling Civic Platform has grown in the polls, with 46 percent of respondents saying they would vote for the party in a general election.

The poll by GFK Polonia finds that while support for Civic Platform has grown by three percent, support for the opposition Law and Justice party has slipped back to 29 percent.

The Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) is on 15 percent, with the junior coalition partner, the Polish Peasant’s Party (PSL) on five percent.

The poll was taken at the end of a month which has seen various media events by party leaders. PM Tusk discussed government policy in a live televised debate with various rock artists such as Zbigniew Hołdys.

Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski also took part in a live TV debate with one of his arch-critics, the former governor of the National Bank of Poland Leszek Balcerowicz.

Leader of the Law and Justice party was also out and about this month, visiting a corner shop to try and illustrate how food prices have risen sharply under PM Tusk’s government, although critics disputed the claims. (pg)
