The latest opinion poll commissioned by Polish Radio differs considerably to other surveys in putting support for the ruling Civic Platform (PO) party at just 31 percent.

A poll taken last week by Gfk Polonia put support for the senior coalition partner at 48 percent.

The poll by the Homo Homini institute released today finds that backing for the three other major players on the political arena remains stable, with opposition parties Law and Justice (PiS) and the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) receiving 26 percent and 16 percent support from respondents respectively.

Seven percent of respondents say they would vote for the junior coalition partner, the Polish Peasants’ Party (PSL) if the general election was to be held this Sunday.

As many as 14 percent told the pollsters that they do not know who to cast their ballot for in parliamentary elections this fall.

The ‘don’t knows’ are predominantly comprised of former supporters of the Civic Platform party.

According to the survey, voter turnout would be 54.8 percent.

The survey was carried out from a sample of 1100 adults with a margin of error of 3 percent. (pg/ab)
