A rampaging ape, thought to be a chimpanzee, has startled the quiet town of Bielawa, south western Poland, after a young man taking a stroll was attacked by an ‘anthropoid’ creature which had paws “twice the size of a human being”.
The “huge animal” grabbed hold of the man and tried to pull him into a nearby property.
The man said he was powerless, so strong was the animal, and would not have survived were it not for his two friends who came to rescue after he cried for help.
The men managed to wrestle their friend free from the grip of the ape and escape.
The incident has aroused a big commotion in the town, with a majority of inhabitants disbelieving the whole story, attributing the man’s bruises to an unfortunate loss of balance caused, possibly, by an over-consumption of alcohol.
However, doctors examining the victim have excluded any kind of intoxicants and diagnosed the bruises as being “very serious”.
Local police are also treating the situation very seriously and have intensified regular patrols – with eyes peeled for a chimp on the rampage.
The problem lies in the fact that any traces of the animal perpetrator are nowhere to be found. (ab/pg)
