US ambassador to Poland Lee A. Feinstein has said that President Barack Obama’s upcoming visit to Poland in May will be an important development in and tightening of bilateral relations.

President Obama will be a guest at a special Central and Eastern presidents summit in Warsaw on 27-28 May and will also be a return visit after Mr Obama’s meeting with President Bronislaw Komorowski in Washington last December.

Ambassador Feinstein, who confirmed as ambassador to Poland in September 2009, told Polish Radio that their meeting will be a confirmation of good trans-Atlantic cooperation.

“We look at this as an opportunity to highlight all of the things we’ve been able to do in the areas of security, in the areas of promoting prosperity in both of our countries, in the areas of promoting democracy.

“We also see this as an opportunity to set our agenda for the future on how we can deepen and broaden cooperation between the two countries,” he said.

Ambassador Feinstein stressed that Poland is a strategic partner and ally of the United States, and the forthcoming visit by President Barack Obama is a proof of that.

According to a preliminary schedule, the US president will meet with Prime Minister Donald Tusk while in Warsaw. (kk)
