• A minus B equals…?

A growing division has opened up between what is called “Poland A” - which is the western part of the country - and “Poland B” in the east.

For the past ten years salaries have been systematically decreasing in the eastern provinces in relation to the national average salary. One of the reasons for such a situation is its industry which is less developed as well as lower speed of production in companies operating in the east. Lower salaries translate into less participation of the eastern regions in the country’s GDP – writes Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.

Under the headline “Reveal the face of a stadium hooligan” Gazeta Wyborcza writes about the government’s ongoing fight against rowdy football fans. According to Andrzej Seremet, prosecutor general, new radical ways of punishing stadium offences should be introduced. They would include an absolute ban on covering fans’ faces during the matches, the right to hold up a game as well as fining organizers for misbehavior of fans during their events.

And on a lighter note, tabloid Fakt reports on intense preparations to the only Polish gig of the Latin-American pop sensation Shakira who will sing in the central city of Łódź on May 17. Tickets have been selling like hot cakes for the two hour “Sun Comes Out Tour” concert which will be a mixture of dance tunes, love songs straight from the heart and rock energy – says a representative of LiveNation which organizes the concert in the tabloid.  (di)
