• Safe Internet Day
  • 06.02.2007
In Poland, every other young person has met with violence on the Web. Nearly half of the children have been subjected to vulgar harassment online, 21% experienced offense, ridicule and intimidation, 16% were threatened or blackmailed. This is according to a research on peer violence with the use of electronic media. Cyberviolence was researched in connection with the Safe Internet Day celebrated today in 40 countries the world over, including Poland. As part of the Safe Internet Project, an internet research company together with an educational foundation have conducted special classes, courses and training activities for children and youth to raise their awareness of the dangers of the Web. The Internet is accessed by children as young as 3 or 4 years old, who cannot even read. A special website has been put up for them, where they can learn through fun and games how to safely use the Internet. One of the major dangers of the cyberspace is addiction. This happens when children spend several hours at the computer daily and get irritated when they are away from the Web and cannot access their mailbox. The Safe Internet Project teaches how to prevent such a state. The Safe Internet Day has been organized in Poland for the third year.
