- Record number of HIV cases detected in Poland
- 07.02.2007
Record number of HIV virus cases were detected in the central Mazovia region and the whole Poland in January.
According to the media reports, one of the reasons behind such a grim record is Simon Mol – a Cameroonian refugee who was arrested in January on allegation that he had kept his HIV status to himself and as a result had infected many women.
Official statistics show the virus was detected in the blood of 94 people in the whole country, including 26 in the central Mazovia region alone in January.
The data is not complete as many people are still waiting to take HIV tests in medical centers around the country, but the current figures are the highest recorded in Poland in the last three years.
