• Poland’s ex PM will not run for job of Bank BP PKO CEO
  • 10.02.2007
Poland's ex-PM Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz decided not to run for the job of the chief executive of the country's biggest bank, PKO Bank Polski.

He was officially nominated to the post after he lost the race for the prestigious job of mayor of Warsaw to a liberal rival in local elections at the end of November.

Some experts expressed concern that Marcinkiewicz, who is a former school science teacher, lacked the professional background and experience necessary to run the country's top bank.

The Board of the bank met at the end of January to consider his election but adjourned very quickly after opening with neither taking action on the election nor setting a date for the next meeting.

Marcinkiewicz said his decision was largely influenced by the opinion of finance minister Zyta Gilowska who had been against his appointment from the start.
