- 02.03.2007
Education and deputy prime minister, Roman Gierych has caused a storm of protest by remarks he made wanting to outlaw abortion and rights for homosexuals in Europe.
Speaking in Heidelberg, Germany, Giertych said that A nation which kills its children is a nation without a future” and that the ‘homosexual lobby’ was further weakening the family as a social unit in Europe.
He proposed joint history textbooks to be used in all schools and wanted Christianity to be pout at the heart of teaching.
The German press were quick to criticize the the remarks. Journalist Gabrielle Lesser said that the descriptions used by Roman Giertych did not bring to mind the late Pope but rather speeches of Nazi German leaders. (pg)
