  • 07.03.2007
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko is meeting his Polish counterpart Lech Kaczynski in the city of Płock today to discuss bilateral energy cooperation and a new agreement between the Ukraine and the European Union.

The talks will focus on plans to extend Ukraine's 670-kilometer Odessa-Brody oil pipeline to Płock which is home to Poland's oil giant PKN Orlen's main refinery. According to the plan, the Caspian Sea oil would be pumped through the pipeline to Płock to help diversify the two countries' energy sources.

Both Poland and Ukraine have been pushing for some time to end their heavy dependence on Russian energy supplies. The heads of state will also meet with the management of Orlen in Płock and participate in the presentation of the “Odessa-Brody-Płock” pipeline.
