"The dismissal of Andrzej Lepper may mean an early election, unless a new majority is formed", said PM Jarosław Kaczyński at an evening press conference yesterday. In his opinion, an election could be held in the autumn or next year. Jarosław Kaczyński is of the opinion that in the long run, a minority government is not a feasible option with such an aggressive opposition present.
A powerless government would be against the country’s interest. Prime minister believes however, that it is too early to raise questions about self-dissolution of the Sejm.
Jarosław Kaczyński believes that Lepper’s return to the cabinet is possible if he is cleared of all the accusations, but that may take a very long time.
Head of government refused to explain what the Self Defence (Samoobrona) leader was accused of. He only said the case was about a very large bribe.
“All of the doubts should be cleared before the court”, said Kaczyński and added that the situation had been unbearable for him.
The prime minister also admitted that the minister of agriculture had refused to resign of his own will. The Law and Justice (PiS) authorities will make a decision as to further steps to be taken.
