An application for setting aside MP’s immunity and for consent to the arrest of Self-defence MP Stanisław Łyżwiński has been tabled before Parliament.MPs are to deal with Stanisław Łyżwiński’s case after the summer break – first meeting after the holidays is to take place on August 22.
District Public Prosecutor's Office in Łódź wants to level Łyżwiński with 7 charges. The MP allegedly demanded sexual favours from four women in exchange for work. He also is accused of committing an act of rape in 2005. Łyżwiński is also to be charged with inducement into abortion.
According to the public prosecutor’s office the MP also induced into kidnapping and detaining of a person who owed him some money.
Andrzej Lepper, chairman of Self-defence, dismissed MP Stanisław Łyżwiński from party ranks last year after the scandal involving the Self-defence members being accused of sexual harassment by a female employee of the parliamentary office in Łódź.
Earlier, the woman had alleged Łyżwiński is the father of her two-year-old daughter. However, DNA tests did not confirmed this.
According to procedure, the application will be dealt with by the parliamentary commission for regulations and MPs’ matters, which will express its opinion. The parliament can consent to setting aside the immunity and to arrest an MP by the majority of at least 231 votes.(jm)
