• President ‘irresponsible’, says Tusk
  • 18.07.2007
In an interview for the Polish Radio this morning, leader of Civic Platform (PO), Donald Tusk, said that the President’s declaration concerning the anti-missile shield– that it was a ‘forgone conclusion’ - was irresponsible.

According to him, one cannot say that the construction of the shield in Poland is a foregone conclusion in a situation when negotiations are still in progress. He added that he wants to be sure that in this case the President is acting on behalf of Poland’s security and not the one of the US.

Civic Platform’s (PO)’s leader said that an investigative commission to inspect the Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA)’s operation in connection to the plot of land scandal which resulted in the dismissal of Andrzej Lepper from the government should be convened.

According to Donald Tusk, who was a guest of the Sygnały Dnia, Polish Radio 1, this is the only way to explain all doubts concerning this operation.
Mr. Tusk thinks that there are enough reasons to convene such a commission. PO’s leadership will meet to discuss this today.

PO’s leader said that in the present situation his party is expecting a political crisis and is ready for earlier parliamentary elections.

He added that PO will not be for a constructive vote of no confidence, because, he claims, it would lead to Samoobrona coming to power, which according to him would exchange a bad government for an even worse one. Mr. Tusk considers the Sejm speaker’s decision not to call an extraordinary session of the chamber as odd, because, he said, a 1.5 month holiday for the parliament is somewhat bizarre when so much is going on at the political scene.
