• End of coalition on Tuesday?

Decisions regarding an early parliamentary election are likely to be taken at an extraordinary session of the Political Council of Law and Justice (PiS) is to be held tomorrow.

TVN 24 news channel claims that PiS MPs were notified about the special Political Council meeting via text messages.

“The meeting will be held in Nowogrodzka Street (PiS headquarters in Warsaw) on Tuesday at noon”, PiS MP Zbigniew Girzyński confirmed in a statement on television. “The Political Council is disciplined and fully supports prime minister’s actions”, Girzyński said. “I expect a discussion on the situation in the coalition”, MP Dawid Jackiewicz added. Other PiS members unofficially predict two scenarios. At the PM’s request, the Political Council can make a decision to terminate the co-operation with the League of Polish Families (LPR) and Self Defence and to hold an early election, or it can authorise PiS chairman or the Political Committee to make the decision to leave coalition at any time - without the need to convene another meeting of the Political Council.

PiS politicians admit that an early election seems inevitable and only the question of time remains open.

Daily "Dziennik" writes that today, the Political Committee of PiS will make a preliminary decision to leave the coalition and the Political Council will take the final stance on Tuesday.

Another leading politician from PiS believes that the burdensome coalition must be stopped and adds that in the opinion of PiS leaders, any perpetuation of it is embarrassing to the party: “The longer League and Self Defence (LiS) cause distress to PiS, even as formal coalition members, the weaker the prime minister’s image”, he tells the daily.

According to the newspaper’s sources, PiS hopes to show the public opinion that a minority government without the coalition allies can be a much better cabinet.
