• Poll reveals party allegiance of newspaper readers in Poland

In the run up to the general election in Poland and opinion poll shows that newspaper readership is a strong indicator of voting intention.

An opinion poll conducted by Estymator among readers of Polish daily newspapers indicates that the opposition Civic Platform (PO) has the widest following among readers of “Gazeta Wyborcza" (Election Gazette) (54 per cent) and "Rzeczpospolita" (Republic) (43 per cent).

The ruling Law and Justice (PiS) has supporters among the majority of readers of "Nasz Dziennik" (Our Daily) (78 per cent), "Dziennik" (Daily), "Rzeczpospolita" and "Metro" (34 per cent of each).

The most left-wing voters declaring support for the Left and Democrats (LiD) are among "Trybuna" (77 per cent) and tabloid "Superexpress" (22 per cent).

The poll also shows that most readers of weekly magazines are the supporters of the Civic Platform: "Przekrój" - 60 per cent, "Newsweek Polska” - 55 per cent, "Wprost" - 51 per cent, "Polityka" - 48 per cent.

Among the readers of catholic weeklies the majority are willing to vote for PiS. 70 per cent of the "Gość Niedzielny" (Sunday Guest) readers support PiS and only 11 per cent are in favour of PO.

Among those who read the weekly "Niedziela" (Sunday), 74 per cent declare their support for PiS and only 4 per cent for PO. "Tygodnik Powszechny" (Common Weekly) is an exception with 30 per cent of PiS and 70 per cent of PO following.
