The Left and Democrats (LiD) embark on an election campaign in the UK, ahead of elections on October 21. At a meeting scheduled in London for Thursday at noon, LiD will present concrete proposals for Poles living and working abroad. The high point of the meeting at the White Eagle club in Balham will be a press conference of MP Ryszard Kalisz.
Unlike the other main opposition party Civic Platform, LiD has not yet presented a clear position on the issues and problems faced by Poles living abroad.
Instead, LiD politicians have criticised the government and the Law and Justice (PiS) for policies driving thousands of Poles to seek work abroad.
Kalisz is expected to present a set of proposals and solutions that will encourage young Polish emigrants to come home.
Between 400,000 to one million Poles have gone to the UK to work at some time during the three years that the country has been in the EU – so the UK, Ireland and other EU countries are now an important constituency for Polish politicians looking for extra votes.
