• Polish anti-corruption chief lashes out at political opposition
  • 16.10.2007
CBA head Mariusz Kamiński has accused Polish opposition party Civic Platform (PO) of using the activities of the Central Anticorruption Bureau as a means of attacking the government.

The attacks concerns the arrest of former MP and Civic Platform (PO) member, Beata Sawicka.

During a press conference today Mariusz Kamiński reminded that he asked the speaker of the Sejm, Ludwik Dorn, to form a parliamentary commission, in case any doubts concerning Sawicka’s case cropped up.

He added that although the Civic Platform (PO) was right to dismiss perspective MP Sawicka, after she was arrested in connection with corruption case last month, the party subsequently attacked the Central Anticorruption Bureau.

Later on, in a press interview, Donald Tusk accused the government of using the Bureau against political opponents.

Kaminski denied the fact that Sawicka’s case may be related to the current election campaign.

During the conference he also presented the circumstances of the former MP’s arrest as well as CBA’s recordings related to the case, which have been played widely on the media in Poland.

Opposition parties have argued that the government has politicized the secret services, police and courts for political ends.
