• Who will rule in Poland?
  • 18.10.2007
In the last opinion poll before the electoral silence (which begins at midnight) conducted by Gfk Polonia on Thursday, the opposition Civic Platform (PO) came first with a 34 per cent support and gained four percentage points since the previous results from 24 hours before. The ruling Law and Justice (PiS) came second with 26 per cent support.

The poll predicts that beside PO and PiS, only two more parties will be represented in the Sejm: the Left and Democrats (LiD) with a 12 per cent support and the Polish Peasants’ Party (PSL) with 8 per cent of votes.

Rzeczpospolita writes that the corresponding distribution of the number of seats in the parliament will require a coalition if a majority government is to be appointed.

The most likely candidates for such alliance are PO and PSL with the total of 241 votes.

Another opinion poll, conducted by the same pollster on the same day, indicates that 38 per cent want Donald Tusk and 30 per cent Jarosław Kaczyński as the next prime minister.
