According to the daily Rzeczpospolita’s sources, the smallest party in the parliament, the Polish Peasants’ Party (PSL) wants the ministries of agriculture, economy, environment and infrastructure in return for their accession to the coalition with the Civic Platform (PO). The newspaper also reveals that PSL insists on a new position of national computerisation co-ordinator to be established and an infrastructure team to be appointed to co-ordinate the work of the key ministries.
Rzeczpospolita writes that the future prime minister Donald Tusk wants to employ experts from outside of his party in the new government.
One of the candidates for the position of finance minister is an economist Stanisław Gomułka, co-author of the economic plan drawn up by Leszek Balcerowicz in 1990s.
The daily also reveals that according to unofficial sources, the current chairman of Pekao SA bank and former Polish prime minister Jan Krzysztof Bielecki could be the main mover and shaker with a lot of influence on the appointment of new ministers and policies of the new government.
Rzeczpospolita reminds that a meeting between PO and PSL to discuss the new coalition is scheduled for Wednesday and points out that the flat income tax rate, promised by PO during their election campaign, could be the main point of disagreement between the future allies, as PSL are in favour of progressive taxation.
