• Controversial Roman Giertych leaves politics
  • 24.10.2007
Roman Giertych, the leader of the former coalition member League of Polish Families (LPR), which failed to get into parliament this year, has resigned from the post of party leader, but remains a party member.

Giertych announced that he will return to his old job as a lawyer, and will open a law office in Warsaw.

In a statement he added, sarcastically, that he will give journalists a 20% discount.

The former party leader stressed that “years will pass by before he commits himself to politics again” and added that LPR is in a very difficult situation, having managed to scrape only 1.30% of voter support.

Roman Giertych was the controversial education minister in the Kaczynski government, introducing ‘patriotic’ reading lists in schools and compulsory school uniforms as a method to restore discipline.
