Poland’s Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński has handed in the resignation of his cabinet to the President, officially bringing an end to the Law and Justice government, in power since the autumn of 2005. “Together with my resignation I also hand a thick report on my government’s activities,” said the outgoing PM.
“We cared for Polish reason of state, Poland’s position in Europe and power security,” Jarosław Kaczyński summarised the two years of the Law and Justice rule in Poland. He also stressed that his cabinet was operating in extremely difficult conditions.
Earlier Secretary of State in the President’s Chancellery Michał Kamiński declared that President Lech Kaczyński is to accept the nomination of Donald Tusk as the new Prime Minister this week.
Tusk, in turn, announced that he will present the members of the new Cabinet a day after his nomination.
Law and Justice lost October’s election to Civic Platform and will now by the largest opposition party in the Polish parliament.
