• Kaczyński’s last appearance in Sejm as prime minister
  • 06.11.2007

Premier Jarosław Kaczyński addressed the new parliament before the appointment of Bronisław Komorowski of Civic Platform (PO) as a new Speaker of the Lower House, yesterday.

Kaczyński appealed to the future Civic Platform government to maintain the high economic growth and low unemployment rates achieved by his government.  He reminded the MPs that in the past two years GDP went up by more than 12 per cent and added that if unemployment continued to decrease at a similar rate, it would cease to be the key social problem.

Jarosław Kaczyński also encouraged upholding some other positive trends, such as an increase in the level of foreign investment and absorption of EU funds.

The former PM expressed his concern that anticorruption initiatives could be on the decrease while the accession to the Euro zone could be rushed, which would have a negative impact on the current GDP level.
