• Premier gave consent to destroy secret records

Two days after the parliamentary election, PM Jarosław Kaczyński signed a decree regulating procedures for archiving and destroying documents of the Internal Security Agency (ABW).

 

According to the Polska daily’s sources, in the opinion of Civic Platform (PO) and Peasants’ Party (PSL) politicians, the new regulations issued by Kaczyński could be used for destroying compromising evidence of the agency and government’s malpractice.

 

ABW has rejected the allegations.  According to ABW’s press officer, the premier’s decree in the result of the amended Law on the National Archival Resources and Archives, and it is merely aimed at introducing order in the regulations previously in force.

 

The daily writes that PO, soon after it has assumed power, intends to look into ABW’s practice to check what records have been destroyed under the new decree.
