• Party rebels should give up mandates, says Kaczynski

Three Law and Justice (PiS) deputy chairmen Paweł Zalewski, Kazimierz Ujazdowski (former culture minister) and former parliament speaker Ludwik Dorn (photo), who resigned form the party management after the lost election, are likely to lose their party memberships.

PiS chairman Jarosław Kaczyński appealed to the three rebels to give up their parliamentary mandates on Radio 1 this morning.

"As a word of reminder, before the election each of us signed a covenant that if someone disagreed with the party’s political agenda, they should give up their MP mandates", Kaczyński said.

Kaczyński’s main complaint is the fact that the three politicians disclosed their letter of resignation to the media, regardless of his plea to the contrary.  In their letter, they appealed to Kaczyński for more openness to discussion and more democracy in decision-making within PiS.

The political future of the three PiS ex-deputies will be decided at the party congress, which is to be held in December.
