• God will forgive me for coalition, says ex-PM Kaczyński

In an interview with Polish weekly magazine Wprost, former PM Jarosław Kaczyński has summed up the two years of Law and Justice (PiS) rule and revealed the party’s plans for the scenario if PiS had won the election on 21 October.

“You have interpreted the rules of PiS as the conflict between good and evil.  Are you ‘good incarnate’ as you have once put it?", asks the magazine.

“The ‘good incarnate’ was obviously a joke and I am a sinner like any other human.  I was only referring to the mechanism of promoting evil people, which is the legacy of communist Poland.  That mechanism was not reversed after 1989.  We were the first to try and change it”, Kaczyński replies.

When asked about the coalition with Andrzej Lepper (Self Defence) and Roman Giertych (League of Polish Families), Kaczyński has said that without such coalition, his government would not have been able to change anything in Poland.

“I hope historians will appreciate that one day and God will forgive us the moral and aesthetic shortcomings of the enterprise. […] When accepting Self Defence as a coalition member I knew that they were a sinful bunch, to put it mildly”, Kaczyński has replied.
