“I would resign if I were Lech Kaczyński”, Lech Wałęsa replied to TVN24 news channel’s question on Thursday, what he would do as president if he found out from the media about PM’s important decision regarding international relations.
The question referred to Donald Tusk’s consent to Russia’s accession to OECD.
Former Polish president and Solidarity leader explains that Kaczyński’s resignation would be justified by his "low support, the fact that he does so little, is clumsy and intends to interfere".
"In the circumstances, I would step down and at the same time ask for amendments to be introduced in the constitution, so that a clear division of competences is defined”, added Wałęsa.
According to former president, the PM "nevertheless should notify the president" of the government’s declaration to withdraw from blocking Russia’s efforts to join OECD. Wałęsa said that the premier "wasn’t completely right" not having informed the president, but added that "the president should comply with the government’s decisions". (mj)
